Chilled Traceability
Traceability from intake to dispatch for a chilled supply chain

- Food supply chain
- ERP
- Data platform
- Compliance
The project
A chilled food supplier needed to trace every pallet from goods-in to the customer door, with temperature and batch records it could show an auditor on demand.
We built a traceability platform that keeps one record per pallet across intake, storage, picking and dispatch. The first module was in production in seven weeks, and the full platform in seven months.
The challenge
Batch and temperature records were spread across paper sheets, a warehouse system and spreadsheets. When a customer or auditor asked where a batch went, the team had to piece the answer together by hand.
Recall drills took two days. A systems integrator had quoted eleven months for a replacement, which was too slow for a business with audits coming up.
The solution
We designed one record per pallet that follows it from goods-in to dispatch: supplier, batch, use-by date, temperature checks, location and the customer it went to.
Scanning at each step keeps the record current without extra admin. A trace screen answers where a batch came from and where it went in seconds, and recall drills that took two days now take eleven minutes. We shipped module by module so the team got value early.
What it does
- One record per pallet
- Scanning at intake storage and dispatch
- Batch and use-by tracking
- Temperature checks on the record
- Forward and backward trace
- Recall drill in minutes
- Audit-ready reports
- Delivered module by module
How we built it
- Map the chain: Followed a pallet from goods-in to the customer door.
- First module in 7 weeks: Goods-in and batch capture went live first.
- Storage to dispatch: Added picking, dispatch and temperature records.
- Trace and recall: Built the trace screen and timed recall drills.
The results
- 1.4M Units traced
Backendz & Chilled Traceability: Highlights

We had been quoted eleven months by a systems integrator. Backendz had the first module in production in seven weeks and it has not fallen over since.
