Digital Security Planner

A site survey, design and estimating tool for security integrators

The project

Digital Security Planner is a web platform for security integrators. Sales engineers and surveyors use it to walk a site, place every camera, door and sensor on the floor plan, and turn that design into a bill of materials and a proposal.

We designed and built it together with Aurora Nexus, from the survey and drawing tools to estimating and sharing.

The challenge

Security integrators usually survey a site with printed floor plans, a camera and a notebook. The design is redrawn back at the office, devices are counted by hand for the quote, and installers get a PDF that is out of date as soon as something changes on site.

Every step lives in a different file, so mistakes in device counts, cable runs and coverage only show up during the install.

The solution

We built one tool for the whole job. Users upload a floor plan, then drag devices onto it from a library grouped by system: video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, intercom, IT and infrastructure. Cameras show their field of view on the plan, so coverage gaps are visible before anything is ordered.

Each device carries its own record: general details, equipment such as camera, mount, licence and accessories, installation specifics, notes, and site photos of the existing condition.

From the placed devices the planner builds the bill of materials and labour estimate, then the proposal. Drawings are listed by customer, site, proposal number, design due date, priority, sales rep and sales engineer, and can be shared with installers, subcontractors and customers.

What it does

  • Floor plan upload and drag-and-drop device placement
  • Device library: video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, intercom, IT and infrastructure
  • Camera field-of-view and coverage on the plan
  • Device records with equipment, installation specifics and notes
  • Site photos of the existing condition
  • Automatic bill of materials from the drawing
  • Labour estimate and proposal output
  • Drawings list by customer, site, proposal and due date
  • Survey status, priority, sales rep and sales engineer on every drawing
  • Customer records and user profiles
  • Sharing with installers, subcontractors and customers

How we built it

  • Discovery: How integrators survey, design and quote today, and where the paperwork breaks down.
  • Design: Figma prototypes of the drawing page, device library and drawings list, tested with sales engineers.
  • Build: A React Native app with a Node.js backend on AWS Amplify, and email through AWS SES.
  • Iterate: Released in versions with Aurora Nexus, adding device types and workflow steps each round.

The results

  • 6 Device categories in the library
  • 3 Tabs on every device record
  • 1 tool From survey to proposal
